About Me

Hi, I’m Anthony.
I’m a communications professional with more than 20 years experience across media, corporate communications, marketing and advertising, community engagement and more.
My early career was spent as a radio broadcaster at 2BS and B-Rock FM in Bathurst, including as the host of the B-Rock FM breakfast show. I won a couple of national radio awards while I was there, as music director and for best station promotion. I learnt to drive live on air, taught by some of the drivers of the Bathurst 1000, and sponsored by local businesses.
From there it was on to Newcastle where I worked for Prime Television, with a little bit of on air TV work but mainly reading the news for the two biggest radio stations in the Hunter, NXFM and KOFM.
Then it was back to Sydney to work for 2UE, a radio powerhouse at the time with the likes of John Laws, Alan Jones, Mike Carlton, Ray Hadley and Stan Zemanek. I worked the police round, covering plenty of big news stories around town. The biggest story of my career happened while I was at 2UE, as one of the first Australian journalists on the ground for the devastating Bali Bombings which killed 88 Australians.
2GB was my next career stop where I was a senior journalist covering the day’s events and traveling to cover the Athens Olympics.
Next stop was Sydney’s Nova 96.9, which was a great place to work. During my time here I worked with some the industry’s greats like Merrick and Rosso, and Rove McManus.
In 2008, I got a call out of the blue from an old mate who recalled me saying, while covering bush fires many years earlier, that I would like to work for the RFS one day. A job was going and I got it.
My first role with the RFS was as a media officer, then media manager, Group Manager and finally director of Corporate Communications and then Communications and Engagement. It’s a place I stayed for 15 years.
During that time I had many achievements – my team leading the bush fire information and warnings effort during the worst bush fires NSW ever experience in 2019-20, delivering more than $50m of advertising campaigns on bush fire safety, looking after apps likes Fires Near Me and Hazards Near Me which are used extensively during emergencies, and much more.
I was also Chair of the Australian Warnings Group, which delivered the country’s first multi hazard warning system across bush fires, floods, severe weather and more. I was recognised for this work with various awards, including my communications leadership with the Australian Fire Danger Rating System.
These days I work for a large NSW government organisation, still in the emergency services sector and looking after corporate communications including internal communications, advertising and marketing, social media, multimedia, events and more.
